UKTV approached Candyspace to update their UKTV Play app, for both the NowTV and Roku platforms. Our first step was to add a registration page - a big leap for UKTV - and drive an improved on-boarding process for new app users. Working in Agile allowed us to deliver incremental releases, while we improved other aspects of the platform behind the scenes.
Phase 2 was bigger. We focussed on optimising the code base and updating the APIs to enable faster page loading. But we also overhauled the user interface, creating a slicker user experience and improved user journey. Building on this, Candyspace worked with the UKTV team to add new feature ‘Categories’ and ‘Subcategories’. This, together with the initial improvements to the on-boarding process, means UKTV can offer a more personalised experience with business-critical ‘Recommended Content’.
Candyspace delivered two key results: a tidied, more efficient and manageable code base, which is a business benefit to the broadcaster. Plus a faster, more straightforward TV app, creating happier customers for UKTV.
