ITV were looking for a cost-effective way of launching a mobile catch-up TV service. Alongside ITV Online's User Experience & Design team, Candyspace developed a first of its kind cross-device user interface to provide users with a great experience when viewing ITV content on mobile devices.
During creation of the UI, Candyspace also helped to re-develop the overall ITV Player look-and-feel.
The apps utilise HTTP Live Streaming to provide adaptive bit-rate playback for the best viewing experience on your connection and device.
It was the first native application of its kind optimised for both phone and tablet that provides advertising insertion following traditional models in broadcast.
The application integrates with all of ITV’s current systems and infrastructure, creating a solid distribution framework for multi-platform content delivery in the future.
Within 12 hours of launching in mid-July 2011, the new ITV Player was number 1 on the Apple app store.
MILLIONS OF DOWNLOADS
The ITV Player has been downloaded more than 18 million times and counting, driving both viewers and revenue for ITV.
MULTIPLE DEVICES, MULTIPLE VIEWS
Developed for iOS and Android, the App offers ITV viewers a wide range of viewing options
“Candyspace consistently go above and beyond in their delivery for ITV, with a partnership of over 5 years as testament. They care, and as a result we trust them.”
